Nashville United Soccer Academy | Development Plan

We Develop the Complete player athlete person leader.

At NUSA, development isn’t a season, it’s a journey. Our model is built around a simple truth… the best environment for growth is one where challenge and success go hand-in-hand.

Our Framework

Everything we do is built on five pillars.

Every training session, every evaluation, every environment we create is shaped by these five principles.

01

Skill

Technical Foundation

Ball mastery, passing, receiving, and 1v1 ability built through deliberate repetition and real-game application. Every player leaves NUSA technically equipped for the next level.

02

IQ

Tactical Intelligence

Decision-making, spatial awareness, and a deep understanding of all phases of play. We develop players who think the game as well as they play it.

03

Fitness

Physical Development

Age-appropriate athleticism, speed, agility, endurance, developed with long-term health in mind. We build athletes who peak at the right time.

04

Mindset

Mental Resilience

Confidence, adaptability, and the ability to perform under pressure. We put players in situations that demand mental strength, because that’s where real growth happens.

05

Heart

Character & Leadership

Creativity, honesty, energy, attitude, and respect. These values aren’t a side note, they’re woven into every session, every interaction, every standard we hold.

“I always see the child first and the player second.”

Our Methodology

Play. Practice. Play.

A training model where every concept is introduced, refined, and applied within a real game environment.

01

Play

Players are put straight into the game. Coaches observe, identify key learning moments, and let the game ask the questions.

02

Practice

Targeted exercises address the specific concept identified in the opening phase. Focused, deliberate, and directly tied to the game.

03

Play

Players return to the game and apply what they’ve learned in a live scenario. This is where real understanding is formed.

“Children should be taught how to think not what to think.”

Academy Structure

Ability Based. Player Movement.

Players aren’t locked in by age. They’re placed where they’ll grow the most and they move as they develop. Select an academy level to see the tier structure.

“We want to create originals, not copies.”

Player Movement

The right environment at every stage.

Player placement is never permanent. Through ongoing assessment our coaches ensure every player is in the environment best suited for their growth right now.

Movement is Positive

At NUSA, moving between tiers is never a punishment. It is a deliberate, coached decision made in the best interest of each player’s development. Up or down, the goal is always growth.

Ongoing Evaluation

Players are assessed regularly throughout the year, not just at tryouts. Our coaches monitor progress continuously so that tier adjustments happen at the right time, not just on a fixed schedule.

Challenge vs. Success

A player who dominates at one level may be better served by stepping up. A player who is struggling may need a reset. We prioritize the environment where each player gets meaningful time and genuine challenge.

Player Centered

Every decision around player movement starts with one question: what is best for this player right now? Not the team’s record, not the coach’s preference. The player comes first, always.

The NUSA Player

We are not just building better players.

We are building better people.

Players who come through NUSA leave more capable, more confident, and more complete, on & off the field.

Reading the game

Tactically Intelligent

The NUSA player understands their role in every phase of play. Anticipates, adapts, and solves problems in real time. We develop players who think the game as well as they play it.

On the ball

Technically Confident

The NUSA player is comfortable under pressure, creative in tight spaces, and able to execute in any moment of the game. Every NUSA player leaves with a technical foundation built to last.

In the moment

Mentally resilient

The NUSA player bounces back from setbacks. Performs under pressure. Leads by example when it matters most. The mental side of the game is never an afterthought at NUSA.

Beyond the game

A champion of character

The NUSA player is honest, respectful, and driven. A teammate others want to play with and a person communities are proud of. Soccer is the platform. Character is the goal.
